My Top 5 Do's and Don'ts for Planting Season

Planting Season Tips!

Planting season will (hopefully) be here soon, and with it comes long days and a lot of work. After many, many years I’ve compiled my top 5 list of do’s and don’ts as a farm wife during this stressful season:

  1. Limit questions - do not bring up the weather or when he thinks he will be in the field. If he wants to talk about it he’ll talk about it. Otherwise you’re just reminding him that we’re behind!

  2. Don’t ask your farmer to do tasks that aren’t critical - should he pick up his dirty laundry and put it in the basket? Yes. But is now the time to harp at him about tasks that aren’t critical to getting plants in the ground? No!

  3. Do ask how you can help. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to do things, just asking shows you care.

  4. Do the little things. Grab his favorite drink at the grocery store, snag some extra snacks to put in his lunch bucket. The little things add up and if they can make his day just a little better it’s worth it.

  5. And most important - give lots of GRACE! To your farmer, to yourself, to your kids! Hand Grace out like confetti! It’s a super stressful time so don’t be hard on yourself if things aren’t the way you’d normally like them to be. You can worry about that when all the crops are in the ground and little baby corn is popping up!

Wishing you all a safe and easy planting season this year!
